Excursion destination in the Salzburger Land
Kaprun is 32 kilometres away from us and is located on the foot of the glacier and the high mountain region Hohe Tauern. High mountain paths offer a wonderful view over the artificial lakes Mooserboden and Wasserfallboden. The castle Kaprun dates back to the 12th century and the narrowness of the Sigmund-Thun-Klamm has a mysterious appearance.

The castle in Kaprun is the biggest castle ruin of the Pinzgau. The ambience of the patriarchal castle Kaprun atomizes the charm of the middle age. Visit the old masonry and go on a journey to the past. On the back of the hill and in a dominant position, the main part has a length of 56 meters and a breadth of 25 meters. The construction is assumed to have taken place in the 12th century.

Trip to Kaprun:
In the last ice age 14.000 years ago the valley Kaprun was surrounded by a powerful glacier. Slowly flowing downstream it shaped the hard chalk rocks of the Mais- and Bürgkogel. The melted glacier left a cutting in the valley where the Kapruner Ache flows downwards and on its 320m long way down it cuts up to 32m deep into the rocks forming different interesting shapes to watch. This ongoing procedure documents the youngest chapter of the formation story of the Kaprun valley.

Today’s museum Kaprun or also local museum Kaprun is located in the 400 year-old Steinbauer farmhouse. After the farmhouse had been unused for a few years and threatened to break down, it was bought from the community Kaprun which classified the building as a historical monument. On the Kirchbichl the museum is surrounded by further historical buildings. On 140m² a centuries-old history is exhibited.
